  • Matt 8:28-34; Mark 5:1-20 & Luke 8:26-39-- see PerMtMkLk4 B.15.

E. Across the Sea of Galilee-- back into Galilee, having left Decapolis

 1. Jesus healed a woman & raised a daughter to life

  • Matt 9:18-26; Mark 5:21-43 & Luke 8:40-56-- see PerMtMkLk4 B.16.

F. They crossed the Sea of Galilee-- Jesus went on a mountainside

  1. Disciples & Jesus went into Syria [12] (2nd pt.) above-- Note that only the John account (in 2. below) specifies Jesus crossing to the far shore of the Sea of Galilee-- i.e., north from the Jordan R. (Bethsaida is located near the northern shore, across from Capernaum). The other accounts seem to have Jesus remaining in Galilee.

  • Matt 14:22-23a Immediately Jesus made the disciples get into the boat & go ahead of Him to the other side of the lake while He dismissed the crowd. After He had dismissed them, He went up on a mountainside by himself to pray-- he could see the disciples rowing.
  • Mark 6:45-46 Immediately Jesus made His disciples get into the boat & go on ahead of Him from the remote place to Bethsaida, while He dismissed the crowd. After leaving Them, He went up a mountainside to pray.

     2. Jesus walked on the Sea of Galilee [13] above

    • Matt 14:23b-33 When evening came, He was there alone, but the boat was already a considerable distance from land-- some 3 mi., per John, buffeted by the waves because the wind was against it. During the 4th watch of the night Jesus went out to Them, walking on the lake. When the disciples saw Him walking on the lake, They were terrified. 'It's a ghost,' They said, & cried out in fear. But Jesus immediately said to Them: Take courage! It is I. Don't be afraid. The remainder of this account, about Peter is neither in the Mark account, nor in John. Lord, if it's You, Peter replied, tell Me to come to You on the water. Come, He said. Then Peter got out of the boat, walked on the water & came toward Jesus. But when He saw the wind, He was afraid &, beginning to sink, cried out, Lord, save Me! Immediately Jesus reached out His hand & caught Him. You of little faith, He said, why did You doubt? And when They climbed into the boat, the wind died down. Then Those who were in the boat worshiped Him, saying, Truly You are the Son of GOD.
    • Mark 6:47-52 When evening came, the boat was in the middle of the lake, & He was alone on land. He saw the disciples straining at the oars, because the wind was against Them. About the 4th watch of the night He went out to Them, walking on the lake. He was about to pass by Them, but when They saw Him walking on the lake, They thought He was a ghost. They cried out, because They saw Him & were terrified. Immediately He spoke to Them & said, Take courage! It is I. Don't be afraid. Then He climbed into the boat with Them, & the wind died down. They were completely amazed, for They had not understood about the loaves; Their hearts were hardened.
