C. In Capernaum after the 2nd trip to Jerusalem

  1. Jesus IS the Bread of Life

  • John 6:22-40 See PerJohn2 B. 1.

  2. Jesus claimed that His flesh should be "eaten" & His blood "drunk"

  • John 6:41-59 See PerJohn2 C. 1.

  3. A centurion's faith; His servant healed [8] 5. above

  • Matt 8:5-13 When Jesus had re-entered Capernaum (between the 1st entry & this 1 was the 1st trip to Jerusalem), a centurion came to Him, asking for help. Lord, He said, My servant lies at home paralyzed & in terrible suffering. Jesus said to Him, I will go & heal Him. The centurion replied, Lord, I do not deserve to have You come under My roof. But just say the Word, & My servant will be healed. For I myself also am a man under authority, like he is under me, with soldiers under Me. I tell this 1, 'Go,' & he goes; & that 1, 'Come,' & he comes. I say to My servant, 'Do this,' & he does it. When Jesus heard this, He was astonished & said to those following Him, I tell You the truth, I have not found anyone in all Israel (Jerusalem, Judea, & Samaria) with such great faith. I say to You that many will come & presume to be Christians from the east & the west, & will take Their places at the feast with Abraham, Isaac & Jacob in the Kingdom of HEAVEN.  But the subjects (slaves-- those that have presumed & will not be set free to be the cloud of witnesses) will be thrown outside, into the darkness, where there will be weeping & gnashing of teeth. Then Jesus said to the centurion, Go! It will be done for You just as You believed it would. And His servant was healed at that very hour.
  • Luke 7:1-10 When Jesus had finished saying all this (giving 4 sermon teachings) in the hearing of the people, He re-entered Capernaum. The 8 "beatitudes" & 18 sermon teachings are eventually all covered in Psalms 19 - 24 Psalm 24 1. "Beatitudes" & Sermon1 - Sermon5, but Luke 6:27-49 only covers sermon teachings #8, #14, #17, #18.
    • #8 (Luke 6:27-36) is covered in Sermon3 Sermon teaching #8 How/Who to love
    • #14 (Luke 6:37-42) is covered in Sermon4 Sermon teaching #14 Criticizing...
    • #17 (Luke 6:43-45) is covered in Sermon5 Sermon teaching #17 Good... fruit
    • #18 (Luke 6:46-49) is covered in Sermon5 Sermon teaching #18 Wisdom...

Continuing on with Luke 7:2, There a centurion's servant, whom his master valued highly, was sick & about to die. The centurion heard of Jesus & sent some elders of the Jews to Him, asking Him to come & heal His servant. When They came to Jesus, They pleaded earnestly with Him, This man deserves to have You do this, because He loves Our nation & has built Our synagogue. So Jesus went with Them. He was not far from the house when the centurion sent friends to say to Him: Lord, don't trouble yourself, for I do not deserve to have You come under My roof. That is why I did not even consider myself worthy in the 1st place to come to You. But say the Word, & My servant will be healed. For I myself am a man under authority, with soldiers under Me. I tell this 1, 'Go,' & he goes; & that 1, 'Come,' & he comes. I say to My servant, 'Do this,' & he does it. When Jesus heard this, He was amazed at Him, & turning to the crowd following Him, He said, I tell you, I have not found such great faith even in Israel. Then the men who had been sent returned to the house & found the servant well.
