PSALM 7
With cross references & topics
Psa 7:1-17 A shiggaion (sung with turbulent lyrics-- note the similar spelling of the Hebrew in the prayer in PerspectivesC C.3.), which He [David] sang to the LORD concerning the words (business) of Cush, a Benjamite. Perh. this was the Cushite (Cushi, the Ethiopian) who delivered the news to David that his son Absalom was dead-- see PART II J.1.c.i.3. Moses married Zipporah, daughter of Reuel (Jethro; Jether), priest of Midian, where he had fled from Pharoah-- yielding Gershom (not to be confused with Gershom son of Levi); Zipporah was a Cushite (an Ethiopian)-- see Exo 2:15-16,21-22; 3:1; 4:18,25; 18:2; Num 10:29; 12:1; Jdg 4:11. Said to: address being trapped & vengeful; deal with slander/insults & persecution; provide justice & protection:
O LORD My GOD (YAHWEH My Majestic ONE), I take refuge in YOU; save & deliver Me from all who pursue Me, or they will tear Me like a lion & rip Me to pieces with no one to rescue Me. O LORD My GOD (YAHWEH My Majestic ONE), if I have done this & there is guilt on My hands-- if I have done evil to Him who is at peace with Me or without cause have robbed My foe --then let My enemy pursue & overtake Me; let Him trample My feet to the ground & make Me sleep in the dust. SELAH
Arise, O LORD (YAHWEH), in YOUR Anger; rise up against the rage of My enemies. Awake, My GOD (for Me), decree justice. Let the assembled peoples gather around YOU. Rule over them from on high (above); let the LORD (YAHWEH) judge the peoples. Judge Me, O LORD (YAHWEH), according to My righteousness (innocence), according to My integrity, O Most High GOD (X). O Righteous GOD (Upright Majestic ONE), who searches minds & hearts, bring an end to the violence of the wicked & make the righteous (innocent) secure.
My shield (protector, sovereign) is GOD Most High (the Majestic ONE) who saves the upright in heart. GOD is a Righteous Judge (The Majestic ONE judges the innocent), a GOD (Mighty ONE) who expresses HIS Wrath every day. If he does not relent (a man does not repent), HE will sharpen HIS Sword; HE will bend & string HIS Bow. HE has prepared HIS Deadly Weapons; HE will make ready HIS Flaming Arrows. He who is pregnant (enamored) with evil & conceives trouble gives birth to disillusionment. He who digs a hole & scoops it out falls into the pit he has made. The trouble he causes recoils on himself; his violence comes down on his own head. I will give thanks to the LORD (YAHWEH) because of HIS Righteousness (Uprightness) & will sing praise to the Name of the LORD Most High (YAHWEH Supreme).

Exo <1> 25:23,30-31,37 <2> 26:1-2,7-8,14,31-37 <3> 27:9-16,18 Description of the 2 main sections: [1] the courtyard within the large entire tent of meeting, for assembly/preparation; & [2] the smaller tent-within-the-entire-tent, the tabernacle, for priests/service. This smaller tabernacle-tent (sometimes called the tent of the tabernacle) was also composed of 2 areas, the holy & most holy places. The entire tent of meeting was outside of the Israelite encampments, as we see in PART I, E E.1.c. There were curtains at the entrance to the courtyard, & also within the tabernacle, between the holy & most holy place. As we see below in Hebr<1>, only the priests entered regularly into the tabernacle-- only as far as into the holy place; the high priest entered into the most holy place 1x-a-yr. We Christians have the freedom not only of going to the tent of meeting (church), but once there, being a kingdom & priests, we also have the choice to collectively enter the holy place (the sanctuary). We can (& should) publically portray Christianity (be a "living testimony"), but more to the point, not only can we privately go before the most holy place, the throne of grace within our hearts, but it's essential that we assemble together in the holy place. Now Jesus is the high priest-- but each time we enter the holy place (the sanctuary), we corporately behold HIM-- as recall the curtain was torn in 2 from top to bottom when, as the song goes, 'God came down to our level': <1> Make a table of acacia wood; put the bread of the presence (facing) on this table to be before ME at all times. Make a lampstand of pure gold, with its 7 lamps; set them [the lamps] up on it so that they light the space in front of it [the lampstand-- Exo 39:37 says it had a row of lamps]. <2> Make the tabernacle with 10 wall curtains of finely twisted linen & blue, purple & scarlet yarn, with cherubim worked into them by a skilled craftsman. All the 10 curtains are to be the same size-- 28 cubits x 4 cubits (c42 ft. x 6 ft.). Following is a description per vv. 3-6: 5 of these curtains were then joined together end-to-end into 1 set, with the last curtain having 50 end-loops; the other 5 curtains were also joined into 1 long set, with the last curtain also having 50 end-loops. The 2 sets were placed so that the loops were adjacent; the loop-sets were fastened together with gold clasps so that the 10 cutains were 1 unit. Make 11 roof curtains of goat hair for the tent over the tabernacle-- each 30 cubits x 4 cubits (c45 ft. x 6 ft.). Following is a description per vv. 9-13: 5 of these roof curtains were joined side-by-side & provided with loops; the other 6 were also joined into 1 wide set-- but fold the 6th double at the front of the tent. These wall & roof curtains were supported by a wooden framework (not described here-- but note the walls had no posts & bases). Nothing is said of the shape/dimensions of the tent, but it has been pictured like a typical house (with walls & a peaked roof-- w/ 2 sloping sides). It is noted that the roof curtains hung down 1 cubit on both sides, & that a half-curtain (2 cubits) is to hang down at the rear. About the orientation of the roof sets: initial logic would have the loops fastening the 2 sets running along the peak of the roof. But the way it is described, that the last curtain was doubled over at the front of the tent (probably so that it could be pulled over in inclement weather) & the extra length of the other set hung over the rear, implies that sets were crosswise, so that the loops ran across the tent. Make for the tent of meeting a covering of ram skins dyed red, & over that a covering of hides of sea cows (dugongs). Make an entrance curtain to the most holy place-- separating it from the holy place (identical to the 10 wall curtains of the tabernacle). Hang it with gold hooks on 4 posts, standing on 4 silver bases. Place the ark of the testimony behind the curtain. The [this] curtain will separate the holy place from the most holy place. Put the atonement cover on the ark of the testimony in the most holy place. Place the table outside the curtain on the north side of the tabernacle & put the lampstand opposite it on the south side. This curtain separating the holy place from the most holy place is the torn curtain mentioned above, referred to above in Matt. For the entrance to the tent of meeting make another identical curtain-- but supported by 5 posts with 5 bronze bases. <3> Now this was just a description of the tent of meeting & its enclosed tabernacle. Surrounding this tabernacle/tent was the courtyard (see Exo 40:8,33): Make a courtyard for the tabernacle. The south side shall be 100 cubits (c150 ft.) long & is to have 10 curtains (5 cubits high, per v. 18, x 10 cubits long) of finely twisted linen-- i.e, as in all the wall & entrance curtains formerly described, but without the colored yarn & cherubim (neither an embroiderer nor a craftsman was required), with 20 posts & bronze bases. The north side shall also be like this. The west end shall be 50 cubits (c75 ft.) wide & have curtains-- same make & orientation as the north/south curtains (i.e., 5 cubits high), with 10 posts & bronze bases. On the east end including the entrance, toward the sunrise-- also 50 cubits wide total. 2 Curtains each 15 cubits (c22.5 ft.) long with 3 posts & 3 bronze bases-- 1 on 1 side of the entrance, 1 on the other side. For the entrance to the courtyard, provide a curtain of 20 cubits (c30 ft.) long with 4 posts & 4 bronze bases-- 5 cubits high as with all the other courtyard curtains, but also with cherubim (requiring an embroiderer). This last courtyard entrance curtain was slanted so as to allow for entering without disturbing the curtains-- drawing a simple diagram showing the 2 sets of 15 cubit curtains, with their 3 bases & posts, & the 20-cubit entrance curtain with its 4 bases & posts, indicates this. Again it is said: The courtyard shall be 100 cubits long & 50 cubits wide, with curtains of finely twisted linen 5 cubits high.
Deu <1> 8:19-20 <2> 9:9-21 <3> 10:1-5 <4> 12:10-11 <1> Moses speaking to all Israel, during the 2nd address before crossing the Jordan R.: If You ever forget the LORD (YAHWEH) & follow other gods (majestic ones) & worship & bow down to them, I testify against You that You will surely be destroyed. Like the nations the LORD (YAHWEH) destroyed before You on the way to Canaan, You will be destroyed for not obeying the LORD Your GOD (YAHWEH Your Majestic ONE). Those words, forget the LORD, are very significant-- he has promised to never leave or forsake Us Christians; however, the more we practice sin, stray & abandon him, and do not confess & seek forgiveness, the harder our hearts grow, the more stiff-necked we become. We remain "on the shelf"-- but if are in the position to present a false testimony & negatively impact an entire church, than the church leaders are to hand this man [person] to Satan, so that the sinful nature (body; flesh) may be destroyed & His spirit saved on the Day [2nd coming] of the LORD (1stCor 5:5). We are dead to sin, but it is not dead to us (it's been reduced to mere sub-conscious ashes, so that we must not obey its rulings-- but we can resurrect it (another way of looking at it is that our sin natures have been removed entirely from inside our hearts & minds, but we can invite their return). <2> Still Moses' 2nd address-- rehearsing how he had 1st gone up the mountain, God having already been irritated because of their fear & aloofness; God then became very angry when they made the golden calf; Moses interceded for the Israelites-- God now being angry enough to blot Their name out from under Heaven (Deu 9:14): When I went up on the mountain the 1st time I stayed on it 40 days & 40 nights; I ate no bread & drank no water. The LORD (YAHWEH) gave Me 2 stone tablets inscribed by the Finger of GOD (the Almighty ONE). At the end of the 40 days & 40 nights, the LORD (YAHWEH) gave Me the 2 stone tablets of the covenant containing the 10 Commandments. Go down at once; They are a stiff-necked people; I will make You into a nation stronger & more numerous than They. So I turned & went down; I saw that You had sinned; I took the 2 tablets & threw them, breaking them to pieces. Then once again I fell prostrate before the LORD (YAHWEH) for 40 days & 40 nights– he had not yet ascended the 2nd time (that story is in ch. 10-- see <3> below); I ate no bread & drank no water; again the LORD (YAHWEH) listened to Me; I prayed for Aaron also. I took the calf You had made; I crushed it & ground it to powder & threw the dust into a stream that flowed down the mountain. Exo 32:20 adds that he made the Israelites drink it. <3> At that time the LORD (YAHWEH) said to Me, Chisel out 2 stone tablets like the 1st ones & come up to ME on the mountain. Also make a wooden chest (an ark). I will write on the tablets the words that were on the 1st tablets, which You broke. Then You are to put them in the chest. So I made the ark out of acacia wood & chiseled out 2 stone tablets like the 1st ones, & went up on the mountain with the 2 tablets in My hands. The LORD (HE) wrote on these tablets what HE had written before, the 10 Commandments; the LORD (YAHWEH) gave them to Me. Then I came back down the mountain & put the tablets in the ark; they are there now-- as we saw in PSALM 1 Jsh<2>, they were carried across the Jordan into the promised land. <4> Still during Moses' 2nd address: You will cross the Jordan & settle; HE will give You rest from all Your enemies; then to the place the LORD Your GOD (YAHWEH Your Majestic ONE) will choose [1st, the most holy place in the tent of the tabernacle, then the temple of Jerusalem; then the hearts of Christians] as a dwelling place for HIS Name-- there You are to bring everything I Moses command You. I.e., within the holy place was the most holy place. Note that is where HIS Name dwelt; 1stCor 6:19 says that the entire bodies of Christians are temples of the Holy Spirit. If we are not pleasing to him within the temple-- in holy bodies & thoughts, in most holy hearts, then how can we be pleasing to him beyond the temple-- by the overflow of the heart (Matt 12:34) in speech & actions?
Matt 27:50-52 Ref. the 2nd curtain separating the holy place from the most holy place, as above in Exo<2>: And when Jesus had cried out again in a loud voice-- at the very end of the crucifixion, He gave up His spirit & became him victorious-- but not yet ascended. At that moment the curtain of the temple was torn in 2 from top to bottom– signifying that it was God's doing. The earth shook & the rocks split. The tombs broke open & the bodies of many holy people who had died were raised to life-- they were not most holy (perfect), as neither are we, a kingdom & priests (Reve 1:6; 5:10-- s.a. below, Hebr<2>). They came out of the tombs, & perhaps minutes later after Jesus' resurrection-- certainly before his ascension They went into the holy city & appeared to many people. Now the O.T. priests periodically alone went into the holy place; only the high priest went into the most holy place-- 1x a year. But now us-priests can enter the most holy place (approach the throne of grace in our hearts-- escorted by the Holy Spirit) at any time, as Jesus the high priest sits there. Our bodies, the domain of the Holy Spirit, are to be holy-- even as we go out into the campground & beyond.Hebr <1> 9:1-3,6-9 <2> 11:1-2,39-40 <1> Now the 1st covenant [The 1st O.T. covenant was made without an oath (see PSALM 1 Deu). This 1st O.T. covenant was made at Horeb/Mt. Sinai; then there was the 2nd O.T. covenant, made in Moab with an oath (see PSALM 8 Deu<1>)-- sworn by God, but communicated through Moses; & then there was the N.T. covenant, also made with an oath-- sworn by God, but directly through Jesus] had regulations for worship & also an earthly sanctuary. A tabernacle was set up– described above, in Exo<1>&<2>. In its 1st room were the lampstand, the table & the consecrated bread; this was called the holy place. Behind the 2nd curtain of the tabernacle was a room called the most holy place. The tabernacle was surrounded by the courtyard, which any Israelite could enter. It too had a curtain at it's entrance, but by the 2nd curtain is meant the curtain at the entrance to the most holy place. The priests only entered regularly into the outer room [holy place] to carry on Their ministry. But only the high priest entered the inner room [most holy place], & that only 1x a year. The HOLY SPIRIT was showing that the way into the most holy place had not yet been disclosed. Jesus is the bread of presence (facing-- the 12 loaves in 2 rows of shew-bread/facing-bread), the bread of life, our daily bread-- the remnant of the Spirit whereby we avoid being treacherous (Exo 25:30; Lev 24;5-6; John 6:41,48; Luke 11:3; Mal 2:15-16). This is an illustration for the present time, indicating that the gifts & sacrifices being offered were not able to clear the conscience of the worshiper. <2> Now faith is being sure of what We do not see. This is what the ancients were commended for, yet none of Them received what had been promised. GOD (THEOS) had planned something better for Us so that only together with Us would They be made perfect.
