B. cont'd. (after the 2nd time in Jerusalem)

    6. A centurion had faith in Capernaum

  • Mark
  • Matt 8:5-13 & Luke 7:1-10 see Capernaum2 C.3.

    7. Jesus raised a dead person in Nain [8] (6th pt.) above

  • Matt & Mark
  • Luke 7:11-17 Soon afterward, Jesus went to a town called Nain, & His disciples & a large crowd went along with Him. As He approached the town gate, a dead person was being carried out-- the only son of his mother, & she was a widow. And a large crowd from the town was with her. When the Lord saw her, His heart went out to her & He said, Don't cry. The He went up & touched the coffin, & those carrying it stood still. He said, Young man, I say to you, get up!. The dead man sat up & began to talk, & Jesus gave him back to his mother. They were all filled with awe & praised GOD. "A great prophet is here among us," they said. This news spread throughout Judea & the surrounding country.

8 . "It is only by Beelzebub..." [8] (7th pt.) above

  • Matt 12:22-37 Then they [the crowd] brought Him a demon-possessed man who was blind & mute, & Jesus healed him, so that he could both talk & see. All the people were astonished & said, "Could this be the Son of David?" But when the Pharisees heard this, They said in their thoughts, "It is only by Beelzebub, the prince of demons, that this fellow drives out demons." Jesus knew Their thoughts & said to Them, Every kingdom divided against itself will be ruined, & every city or household divided against itself will not stand. If Satan drives out Satan, he is divided against himself. How then can his kingdom stand? And if I drive out demons by Beelzebub, by whom do Your people drive them out? So then, they will be Your judges. But if I drive out demons by the Spirit of GOD, then the Kingdom of GOD has come upon You. Or again, how can anyone enter a strong man's house & carry off his possessions unless he 1st  ties up the strong man? Then he can rob his house. He who is not with Me is against Me, & he who does not gather with Me scatters. And so I tell you, every sin & blasphemy will be forgiven men, but the blasphemy against the Spirit will not be forgiven. Anyone who speaks a word against the Son of man will be forgiven, but anyone who speaks against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven, either in this age or in the age to come. Make a tree good & its fruit will be good, or make a tree bad & its fruit  & its fruit will be bad, for a tree is recognized by its fruit. Thus we have the vital/essential reason why it's imperative that only the fruit is visible to non-Christian church attenders, so that the essential reason for church attendance(corporate worship & fellowship, & experiencing his presence amongst us-- not just in us) not be compromised. You brood of vipers-- recall Jesus was addressing the Pharisees here. Back in Late Life John Before Baptizing JesusPer Matt & Per Luke we saw John the Baptist referring to the Pharisees & Sadducees, & then also the crowds in general, this way (when they came out to be baptized). Later (Matt 23:33) Jesus referred to the teacher of the Law & the Pharisees this way, how can You who are evil say anything good? For out of the reflexive overflow of the heart the mouth speaks. The good man/woman automatically brings good things out of the good stored up in him/her, & the evil man/woman automatically brings evil things out of the evil stored up in him/her. In this way they are transparent! For by Your words You will be acquitted, & by your words you will be condemned.
  • Mark 3:20-30 Then Jesus entered a house, & again a crowd gathered, so that He & His disciples were not even able to eat. When His family heard about this, They went to take charge of Him, for They said, 'He is out of His mind.' And the teachers of the Law who came down from Jerusalem said, 'He is possessed by Beelzebub! By the prince of demons He is driving out demons.' So Jesus called Them & spoke to Them in parables: How can Satan drive out Satan? If a large kingdom is divided against itself, that kingdom cannot stand. If a small house is divided against itself. And if Satan opposes himself & is divided, he cannot stand; his end has come. In fact, no 1 can enter a strong man's house & carry off his possessions unless he 1st ties up the strong man. Then he can rob his house. I tell You the truth, all the sins & blasphemies of men will be forgiven them. But whoever blasphemes against the Holy Spirit will never be forgiven; he is guilty of an eternal sin. He said this because They were saying, "He has an evil spirit."
  • Luke

    9.  Jesus spoke to/about John the Baptist [8] (7th pt.) above

  • Matt 11:1-19 After Jesus had finished instructing His 12 disciples, He went on from there to teach & preach in the towns of Galilee. When John heard in prison what Christ was doing, having done an about-face in his faith, He sent His disciples to ask Him, 'Are You the 1 who was to come, or should We expect someone else?' Jesus replied, Go back & report to John what You hear & see: The blind receive sight, the lame walk, those who have leprosy are cured, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, & the Good News is preached to the poor. Blessed is the man who does not fall away on account of Me. As John's disciples were leaving, Jesus began to speak to the crowd about John: What did you go out into the wilderness expecting to see? A reed gently swayed by the wind? If not, what did you go out to see? A man formally dressed in fine clothes? No, those who wear fine clothes are in king's palaces. Then what did you in fact go out to see? A prophet? Yes, I tell you, & so much more than a prophet. This is the 1 about whom it is written in Mal 3:1 I will send MY messenger ahead of YOU, who will prepare YOUR way before YOU (which goes on to say that he will be the messenger of the covenant). I tell you the truth: Among those born of women-- not born from above as he was --there has not risen anyone greater than John the Baptist; yet He who is least in the Kingdom of HEAVEN [born again, but not at all matured] is greater than He. From the days of John the Baptist until now, the Kingdom of HEAVEN has been forcefully advancing, for none of my disciples have the Holy Spirit, & forceful men lay hold of it. For  all the Prophets & the Law prophesied until John & this was/is their strength-- the Holy Spirit upon them. And if you are willing to accept it, He is Elijah who was to come, per Mal 4:5-- which goes on to describe the day of Jesus as both great & dreadful (great for those who accept him; dreadful for those who do not). He who has ears to indeed hear, let Him really hear. To what can I compare this generation? They are like children sitting in the marketplaces & calling out to the others: 'We played flutes for You, & You did not dance; then we re-oriented-- we sang a dirge, & You did not mourn'-- futile! We remained separate. For John came neither eating nor drinking, & disregarding him, they did not dance-- They say, 'He has a demon.' The Son of man then came both eating & drinking-- reaching out to the crowds, & They say, "Here is a glutton & a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors & 'sinners'." But wisdom is proved by her actions.
  • Mark
  • Luke 7:18-35 John's disciples told Him about all these things. Calling 2 of Them, He sent Them to the Lord to ask, 'Are You the 1 who was to come, or should we expect someone else?' When the men came to Jesus, They said, John the Baptist sent us to You to ask, 'Are You the 1 who was to come, or should we expect someone else?' At that very time Jesus cured [was curing] many who had diseases, sicknesses & evil spirits, & gave sight to those who were blind. So He replied to the messengers, Go back & report to John what You have seen & heard: the blind receive sight, the lame walk, those who have leprosy are cured, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, & the good news is preached to the poor. Blessed is the man/woman who does not fall away on account of Me. After John's messengers left, Jesus began to speak to the crowd about John: What's reasonable? What did you go out into the desert to see? A reed swayed by the wind? If not, what did you go out to see? A man dressed in fine clothes? No, those who wear expensive clothes & indulge in luxury are in palaces. But what did you go out to see? A prophet? Yes, I tell you, & more than a prophet. Specifically, This is the 1 about whom it is written: I will send MY messenger ahead of YOU, who will prepare YOUR way before YOU. I tell you, among men born of women there is no 1 greater then John; yet the 1 who is least in the Kingdom of GOD is greater than He. (All the people, even the tax collectors, when they heard Jesus' words, acknowledged that GOD'S Way was right, because they had been baptized by John. But the pharisees & experts in the Law rejected GOD'S Purpose for themselves, because They had not been baptized by John.) To what, then, can I compare the people of this generation? What are they like? They are like children & calling out to each other: 'We played the flute for You brothers-n-sisters, & You did not dance; then we sang a dirge, & You did not cry.' For John came neither eating bread nor drinking wine, & You say, 'He has a demon.' The Son of man came eating & drinking, & You say, "Here is a glutton & drunkard, a friend of tax collectors & 'sinners'." But wisdom is proved right by all her children.

   11.  Jesus told of his true family [8] (7th pt.) above

  • Matt 12:46-50 While Jesus was still talking to the crowd, His mother & brothers stood outside, wanting to speak to Him. Someone told Him, Your mother & brothers are standing outside, wanting to talk to You. He replied to him, Who is My mother, & who are My brothers? Recall we just saw that His family said, 'He is out of His mind (see Mark 3:21 above).' Pointing to His disciples, He said, Here are My mother & My brothers. For whoever does the Will of My FATHER in HEAVEN is My brother & sister & mother.
  • Mark 3:31-35 Then Jesus' mother & brothers arrived. Standing outside, They sent someone in to call Him. A crowd was sitting around Him, & they told Him, Your mother & brothers are outside looking for You. Who are My mother & My brothers? He asked himself. Then He looked at them seated in a circle around Him & said, Here are My mother & My brothers! Whoever does the GOD'S Will is My brother & sister & mother.
  • Luke 8:19-21 Now Jesus' mother & brothers came to see Him, but They could not get near Him because of the crowd. Someone told Him, Your mother & brothers are standing outside, wanting to see You. He replied, My mother & brothers are those who hear GOD'S Word & put it into practice.
