Preparation Day events revisited; [22] 6.-10. above
Remember, all the revisited events below occurred on the Jewish Preparation Day-- the day before the Sabbath & the start of the Passover Feast.
6., the Lord's Supper was in the Jewish early evening (recall Mark 14:17 saying, When evening came; but remember the feet washing occurred during the evening meal, per John 13:1-30)-- i.e., all this in our present-day Thurs. early evening;
7., the teachings & prayers were in the Jewish later evening-- i.e., all this in our present-day Thurs. later evening;
8., the agony & betrayal were in the Jewish wee-hours of the morning-- i.e., all this in our present-day Good Fri. wee-hours of the morning;
9., the arrest & trial began in the Jewish very early of the morning (see Mark 15:1)-- i.e., all this in our present-day Good Fri. early morning;
10., the crucifixion & burial occurred in the Jewish morning & afternoon (Mark 15:25 says, It was the 3rd hour when They crucified Him; Mark 15:33-34,37 says, At the 6th hour darkness until the 9th; at the 9th hour, Jesus breathed His last)-- i.e., all this in our present-day Good Fri. morning & afternoon.

D. (cont'd) During the 5th time in/near Jerusalem
39. Jesus died [22] 10. above
- Matt 27:45-56 From the 6th hour until the 9th hour darkness came over all the land-- as in PerMtMkLk25 D.38.(Mark), figuring from dawn in Jerusalem at 6:00 am: he was crucified between 8:00 & 9:00 AM Jerusalem time; the darkness was from 11:00 AM until 3:00 PM Jerusalem time. About the 9th hour (between 2:00 & 3:00 PM Jerusalem time) Jesus cried out in a loud voice, Eloi, Eloi, lama sabachthani-- which means, My GOD, My GOD, why have YOU forsaken Me? (Psa 22:1a). When some of those standing there heard this, they said, 'He's calling Elijah.' Immediately 1 of them ran & got a sponge. He filled it with wine vinegar, put it on a stick, & offered it to Jesus to drink (Psa 69:21). About the drink offerings: In PerMtMkLk25 D.37.(Matt & Mark) we see Jesus being offered wine mixed with gall/myrrh immediately upon arriving at the Place of the Skull (& his tasting & refusing it); but in PerMtMkLk25 D.38.(Luke), here (Matt & Mark), & in PerJohn8 D.7., we see Jesus being offered a sponge of wine vinegar at the end of the crucifixion. The rest said, 'Now leave Him alone. Let's see if Elijah comes to Him.' And when Jesus had cried out again in a loud voice, He gave His spirit. At that moment the curtain of the Temple was torn in 2 from top to bottom-- said by scholars to have signified that Christians no longer need priests. Exo 19:6 says Israel was once a kingdom of priests & a holy nation, for the express purpose that it would become obvious we couldn't remain that way without GOD in Us by the Holy Spirit-- indeed, Reve 1:6 sums that up with, he has made Us to be a kingdom & priests. Also, see the last pt. (A New Song) of this topic. However, it's also been pointed out that the curtain being torn from top to bottom is also very significant (God intervening from above). I say, let all other religions think their people are on their way to God; I say Christians are on their way with God (I've heard the common belief that all people, in their various religions, believe they are on a unique spoke-of-the-common-wheel, on their way to God. Well, Christians are on a very unique wheel, on their way with God-- by reason of the Holy Spirit already in their hearts). The earth shook & the rocks split. The tombs broke open & the bodies of many holy people who had died were raised to life. They came out of the tombs, & after Jesus' resurrection They went into the holy city & appeared to many people. When the centurion & those soldiers with him who were guarding Jesus saw the earthquake & all that happened, they were terrified, & exclaimed, 'Surely He was the Son of GOD!' Many women were there, watching from a distance. They had followed Jesus from Galilee to care for His needs. We see in Psalms ? - ? Psalm 133 #. Woman #6 Used-of-GOD (end) about women who were helping to support them out of their means (Luke 8:3). Among Them were Mary Magdalene, his aunt Mary the mother of James & Joses, & the unnamed mother of Zebedee's sons-- Salome, per Mark immediately below. But take note that we do have all 3 Marys at the cross at some pt. earlier, before he died-- his mother Mary, his mother's sister Mary & Mary Magdalene (see PerJohn8 D.6.).
- Mark 15:33-41 At the 6th hour darkness came over the whole land until the 9th hour. And at the 9th hour Jesus cried out in a loud voice, Eloi, Eloi, lama sabachthani-- which means, My GOD, My GOD, why have YOU forsaken Me?. When some of those standing near heard this, they said, 'Listen, He's calling Elijah.' 1 man ran, filled a sponge with wine vinegar, put it on a stick, & offered it to Jesus to drink. 'Now leave Him alone. Let's see if Elijah comes to take Him down,' he said. With a loud cry, Jesus breathed His last. The curtain of the Temple was torn in 2 from top to bottom. And when the centurion, who stood there in front of Jesus, heard His cry & saw how He died, he said, 'Surely this man was the Son of GOD!' Some women were watching from a distance. Among Them were <1> Mary Magdalene, <2> his aunt Mary the mother of James the younger & of Joses, & <3> Salome. In Galilee these women had followed Him & cared for His needs. Many other women had come up with Him to Jerusalem were also there.
- Luke 23:44-49 It was now about the 6th hour, & darkness came over the whole land until the 9th hour, for the sun stopped shining. And the curtain of the Temple was torn in 2. Jesus called out with a loud voice, FATHER, into YOUR Hands I commit My spirit. When He had said this, He breathed His last. The centurion, seeing what had happened, praised GOD & said, 'Surely this was a righteous man.' When all the people who had gathered to witness this sight saw what took place, they beat their breasts & went away. But all who knew Him, including the women, the 2 Marys (Mary Magdalene, his aunt (not his mother) & Salome, who had followed Him from Galilee, stood at a distance, watching these things.
- John 19:28-37 (see PerJohn8 D.7.)
- A New Song There were listed some 30 songs & prayers of the Bible in PerspectivesC-- likely not all of the songs & prayers of the Bible. Indeed, I notice 1 omitted. In Revelation (Reve 5:6-13), sung by the 4 creatures & the 24 elders to the Lamb looking as if it had been slain, standing in the center of the throne. Each 1 had a harp & They were holding golden bowls full of incense, which are the prayers of the saints. And They sang a new song: YOU are worthy to take the scroll & to open its seal, because You were slain, & with Your blood You purchased men for GOD from every tribe & language & people & nation. You have made Them to be a kingdom & priests to serve Our GOD, & They will reign on the earth. Worthy is the Lamb, who was slain, to receive power & wealth & wisdom & strength & honor & glory & praise! To HIM who sits on the throne & to the Lamb be praise & honor & glory & power, for ever & ever wealth & wisdom. Mk 16:19 & Acts 1:3,9 say that after the crucifixion, After the Lord Jesus had spoken to Them 40 days, He was taken up into Heaven, & HE sat at the Right Hand of GOD. There he will be until after the time of the Gentiles are fulfilled, for Matt 26:64 says, In the future You will see the Son of man sitting at the Right Hand of the Mighty ONE & coming on the clouds of Heaven. Now there are times, clearly after the ascension, when he does stand-- this is explained in Acts 7 Chapter 7 2.
40. Jesus was "buried" (Joseph Himself a disciple of Jesus [22] 10. above
Jesus of course was buried-- what was unique was his subsequent arising
- Matt 27:57-61 As evening approached, there came a rich man from Arimathea, named Joseph, who had himself become a disciple of Jesus. Going to Pilate, He asked for Jesus' body, & Pilate ordered that it be given to Him. Joseph took the body, wrapped it in a clean linen cloth, & placed it in His own new tomb that He had cut out of the rock. He rolled a big stone in front of the entrance to the tomb & went away. Mary Magdalene & the other Mary [His mother's sister (his aunt), wife of Clopas & mother of James & Joses-- see <1> Per John8 D.6.; <2> above, the ends of Matt & Mark & <3> below, the end of Mark] were sitting there opposite the tomb-- Salome also, per Luke below (those who followed from Galilee).
- Mark 15:42-47 It was yet the Preparation Day (i.e., the day before the Sabbath)-- recall he died about the 9th hour (3 PM Jerusalem time). So as evening approached, Joseph of Arimathea, a prominent member of the Council, who was himself waiting for the Kingdom of GOD, went boldly to Pilate & asked for Jesus' body. Pilate was surprised to hear that He was already dead. Summoning the centurion, he asked him if Jesus had already died. When he learned from the centurion that it was so, he gave the body to Joseph. So Joseph bought some linen cloth, took down the body from the cross, wrapped it in the linen, & placed it in a tomb cut out of rock. Then he rolled a stone against the entrance of the tomb. Mary Magdalene & his aunt Mary the mother of Joses saw where He was laid-- Salome also, per Luke below (those who followed from Galilee).
- Luke 23:50-56 Now there was a man named Joseph, a member of the Council, a good & upright man, who had not consented to their decision & action. He came from the Judean town of Arimathea & He was waiting for the Kingdom of GOD. Going to Pilate, He asked for Jesus' body. Then He took it down, wrapped it in linen cloth & placed it in a tomb cut in the rock, a in which no 1 had yet been laid. It was the Preparation Day, & the Sabbath was about to begin. The women who had come with Jesus from Galilee [Mary Magdalene, aunt Mary, & Salome, per D.39. (end of Mark) above] followed Joseph & saw the tomb & how His body was laid in it. Then They went home & prepared spices & perfumes. But They rested on the Sabbath in obedience to the commandment.
- John 19:38-42 (see PerJohn9 D.8.)
